Charles George Shevlin
Charles George Shevlin
With profound sadness, we share the passing of Charles George Shevlin (Chuck) on November 5, 2024, at the age of 67. Chuck was born on January 19, 1957, in Virginia to Charlie Shevlin and Patricia Branton. His bright spirit and love of life touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Chuck grew up in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Florida in his mid-teens. From there he left for Michigan in which he attended Automotive school. After working as a mechanic in his 20’s, Chuck decided to pursue his education in science. He received his Bachelor’s of Science in Biochemistry at the University of Arizona, then achieved his PhD in Organic Chemistry at the University of Missouri. Chuck moved his family to San Diego, CA where he completed his postdoc at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla.
One of Chuck’s greatest joys was playing soccer with his friends and family every Sunday morning, rain or shine. It was a tradition that brought him immense joy that reflected his love for both the game and the connection it fostered with those around him. He was a jack of all trades and enjoyed spending his free time working in the garage on cars, wood and metal. Beyond his skills, Chuck was a natural storyteller, always eager to share a funny tale or a bit of wisdom with those around him. Chuck was full of life, with an infectious energy that could light up any room. His warmth, humor, and generous spirit made him a cherished presence to all who knew him.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Beatrice Shevlin; his three children and their spouses: Iain Shevlin (Tanya), Caroline Simunich (Sergio), and Grace Spooner (Pat); his siblings: Cory Gonzales, Celina Christiano, and Sean Shevlin; and his grandchildren: Lara Simunich, Elena Shevlin, and Zachary Simunich, along with many other family members and friends.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Patricia Shevlin, and his former wife, Chella Shevlin, who passed away eight years ago. Together, they raised a family that he was immensely proud of.
Chuck’s legacy of kindness, brilliance, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love and gratitude.
